<p><strong>ABOUT DISCOVERY HOUSE</strong></p> <p>Discovery House is a collective of <strong>three sober living home in Delray Beach, Fla. dedicated to helping adult men</strong> develop the tools and habits needed for a substance-free lifestyle**. <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/FL17.pdf" target="_blank">One of just 352 (52.7 percent of) private facilities statewide</a>, Discovery House uses a structured two-phase program that follows the 12 Steps and consists of meetings, exercise, meditation, and other sober activities.</p> <p>Discovery House can also provide <strong>referrals</strong> for detoxification services, relapse prevention counseling, aftercare and recovery planning, and drug and alcohol education.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Discovery House is first and foremost <strong>a program that follows the 12 Steps</strong>. To be successful in their recovery, the sober living home maintains, residents must attend meetings and not use, find a sponsor, work the steps, and be willing to ask for help and be of services to others. “Every resident must comply with this philosophy or find another place to reside,” the facility’s website notes. <strong>Random urinalyses and breath testing</strong> are conducted throughout a resident’s stay.</p> <p>In order to be eligible for Discovery House, prospective clients must demonstrate that they are serious about their personal recovery through a <strong>phone interview.</strong> They must also be at least 18 years or older and <strong>clean and sober from alcohol and other mood-altering chemicals for at least 72 hours at the time of admission</strong>. While participants are not required to have completed inpatient care, “ideally” they reserve a bed while still in treatment.</p> <p>Programing is broken down into <strong>two distinct phases</strong>. In Phase I, a period of 30 to 60 days, residents focus on building up a support network. They’ll adhere to a <strong>10 p.m. curfew, acquire a sponsor and establish a “home group,” and obtain a minimum of 20 weekly hours of employment, education, or volunteer work</strong>. Once they’ve met their Phase I goals and requirements, residents move onto Phase II. Having proven themselves accountable, they’ll have later curfews - both weeknights and weekends - and continue their work.</p> <p>Discovery House is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/FL17.pdf" target="_blank">one of just 260 (38.9 percent of) programs in the state that helps clients meet their <strong>vocational and employment needs</strong></a>. Service and volunteer opportunities are encouraged as well.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>All three residences are staffed 24/7.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Discovery House runs three separate homes just minutes from the beach. Modest and simple, these one-floor homes have <strong>shared bedrooms</strong> (two clients per room), a full kitchen, and common areas with couches and a TV. The facility allows <strong>visits from immediate family members and other individuals upon prior approval</strong>.</p> <p>Additionally, the single Rehabs.com survey respondent to date awarded gave four out of five stars for the facility’s meals, accommodations, and cleanliness.</p> <p><strong>REVIEWS</strong></p> <p>In the sole Rehabs.com survey response to date, an anonymous loved one awarded Discovery House three- and four-star ratings in over a dozen different areas including treatment effectiveness, family participation, staff training and experience, counseling options, and exercise and leisure offerings. The anonymous reviewer felt the facility’s location and atmosphere were its strengths; understaffing and “poor security” its weaknesses.</p> <p>Feedback ranged widely on Google, where the center has a slightly above-average rating of 2.7 out of five stars based on seven reviews.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> While two reviewers referred to their experiences at Discovery House as “dreadful” and told of “drugs and drinking taking place in the house on a consistent basis,” others commended the facility for keeping in line with their “Clean, Strict” policies.</p> <p>“Very clean and in order houses. The houses provided me with what I needed in early recovery. I've met life long friends. The house rules shaped me back into the person I once was; a functioning human being.
