ABOUT STEWART-MARCHMAN-ACT BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT

Founded more than 50 years ago, Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare (SMA) operates numerous treatment facilities that, collectively, offer a full continuum of care in Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties, Fla. Services include inpatient and outpatient care at a variety of locations. The DeLand office, located on a tree-lined street slightly south of central DeLand, is one of the state's 559 (83.7 percent) outpatient counseling centers.

The organization is named for the Marchman Act, a Florida law that allows for the involuntary treatment of individuals struggling with problematic substance use.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Outpatient addiction counseling for adults consists of individual and group counseling and monthly treatment reviews, plus education and counseling for families. Steward-Marchman-Act Behavioral Health also provides outpatient counseling services for adolescents, which focus on developing social skills, repairing relationships, and reducing disruptive behavior. In Florida, SMA is among the 20.2 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for adolescents.

In addition, this DeLand branch offers an outpatient medication-assisted therapy program, which includes medication management services, though the center's website does not currently state which medications are used on the program. Community-based services are provided, too, with a view to increasing the independent functioning of adult clients by coordinating treatment efforts.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Services are provided by advanced registered nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, case managers, and life skills coaches.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews directly from alumni of Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Health in DeLand, and secondary review sites yielded four reviews for an average rating of 2.8 stars on Google to date.[1] "2 years ago was very happy with their services...made me feel very hopeful that i could get stable...now everytime you go it's a new doctor... overall the staff is not helpful or even seem to care," M.G. wrote in a one-star review on Google left in early 2017. The other reviewers did not elaborate on their experience.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

"I would recommend this rehab to others," wrote the single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date, also praising the staff as a facility strength at this DeLand branch of Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Health. This reviewer gave the facility three stars for its treatment effectiveness and four stars for its holistic offerings, cleanliness, and its family participation โ€” though they also cited the center's size as a weakness. The reviewer was polled in January 2016, more than a year before the alum quoted above, who cited recent problems with staff changeover.

FINANCING

SMA accepts Medicaid (accepted by 38 percent facilities in the state), Medicare (accepted by 23.1 percent Florida treatment centers), and some private insurances, and also offers treatment on a sliding fee scale, for those who do not have insurance. Treatment is also subsidized by government funding. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its affordability.

CONCLUSION

In August of 2018, Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare (SMA) began offering shuttle services for its drop-in center in Saint Augustine. No further information is available concerning plans to expand these services to other facilities.

[1] GoogleReviews
