Editorial Review

ABOUT ELLENDALE RECOVERY RESPONSE CENTER

Ellendale Recovery Response Center provides short-term, transitional rehabilitation services to individuals struggling with psychiatric and substance use disorders. Based in Ellendale, Del., the center focuses on crisis assessment and recovery engagement for adults. According to the Delaware Health and Social Services' website, goals of the Recovery Response Center services are to prevent hospitalization and higher levels of care by rapidly getting to know the person’s needs, engaging in a voluntary recovery opportunity, and connecting people to community services and supports.

Contracted by the Delaware Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), the center is operated by RI International (formerly known as Recovery Innovations), an Arizona-based nonprofit agency that operates six treatment facilities throughout the United States. According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, 57.4 percent of treatment facilities in Delaware are private nonprofits.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients experiencing a need for immediate care without hospitalization can access the Recovery Response Center's 23-hour crisis assessment and engagement program. Services are offered at the facility 24/7 through phone support, in person, or via mobile services in the community.

The DHSS's website indicates that clients who are medically unstable, including those experiencing acute withdrawal symptoms, cannot be supported at the Ellendale recovery center. However, the stabilization program does address immediate emotional, psychiatric, and substance use crises, facilitating connections to other services as needed.

In crisis stabilization care, clients receive evaluations and referrals for continued care at other facilities. Those who choose to spend additional time in the recovery center interact with peer mentors and counselors who offer encouragement and guidance to clients facing strong emotional or behavioral challenges.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Recovery Response Center's staff includes a supervising psychiatrist, nurses, and peer support specialists. The center employs about 30 mental health professionals, according to a Sussex County webpage.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The recovery space includes six comfortably furnished individual rooms and a common area. Visitation is allowed with the client's permission, and a constable is on-site at all times.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave neutral reviews that skewed positive. Both indicated that they would strongly recommend the program to others. In particular, they highlighted counseling options, staff's level of training and experience, and ability of the facility to address co-occurring disorders as strengths, offering high four or five-star ratings for each survey metric. However, they both gave low marks to the ease of connectivity with loved ones and disagreed on the center's affordability.

Three alumni on Google offered highly negative feedback, with each giving just a one out of five-star rating.[1] Reviewers who left feedback characterized staff as unsympathetic and unqualified and the treatment as being of poor quality. In a representative review, alum Tieryn said that "the nurses and staff were completely aloof and not caring."

FINANCING

Services at the facility are funded by the state, according to a Delaware government document. A 2016 SAMHSA survey indicated that 53.2 percent of treatment facilities in Delaware receive government funding.

[1] GoogleReviews
