ABOUT WATERBURY HOSPITAL ADDICTION SERVICES

Located in Waterbury, Conn., Waterbury Hospital provides a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and traditional outpatient program for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility's addiction services also includes medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals recovering from opioid dependency. The hospital offers both maintenance-focused and detoxification MAT regimens.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, patients participate in an initial substance abuse assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized treatment plan and determine an appropriate level of care. Waterbury Hospital's outpatient-based programs utilize a range of evidence-based treatment methods to treat its patients. If an individual requires a heightened level of structure and supervision, the patient may be referred to the facility's PHP.

Waterbury Hospital's partial hospitalization program, one of only 20 in the state involves 20 hours of weekly programming, four hours of daily treatment on weekdays. During PHP, patients may participate in a schedule of group and individual counseling sessions, as well as coping skills workshops and educational classes on substance abuse. Patients may also be encouraged to become involved with community-based support networks, such as !2-Step or SMART Recovery, and family counseling may be incorporated into programming.

The facility's intensive outpatient program entails three-hour sessions, three to five times per week, depending on individual needs. Offered in the mornings and evenings, IOP's programming is highly flexible. IOP may focus on relapse prevention and maintaining a recovery-oriented lifestyle, while the facility's traditional outpatient program may serve as an aftercare-type service. In same cases, clinicians may encourage patients to "step-down" through different treatment programs to follow a comprehensive continuum of treatment.

Waterbury Hospital's outpatient programs may also include specialized counseling groups that address specific co-occurring mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar.
