The center, owned by Universal Health Services, offers acute inpatient treatment and outpatient programs to adults and adolescents struggling with substance use disorder and/or mental health problems. The facility also provides medical detox to adults, a service offered by just 2.4 percent of all hospital-based treatment programs in Colorado.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Centennial Peaks Hospital begins with a free assessment. Inpatient programming is short-term and includes detox, crisis stabilization, discharge planning, 24-hour nursing care, and individualized treatment plans. The goal of inpatient care is to quickly stabilize the individual and refer them to a less-intensive level of care.

The facility's intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), a modality available in less than half (44 percent) of treatment facilities in Colorado, last from eight to 12 weeks and include life skills education, individual and group counseling, and random drug testing.

Therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are also utilized, the latter of which is offered by 67 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Colorado. Aftercare sessions are offered weekly for up to a year following completion of treatment.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Centennial Peaks Hospital employs physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, mental health specialists, case managers, and activity therapists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 72-bed facility offers a modern treatment space. Official photographs published by the facility indicated an indoor basketball court, office space, a dining area, and bedrooms with two twin beds and basic furnishings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Centennial Peaks Hospital overwhelmingly negative feedback, awarding it just one out of five stars in most evaluated categories, including staff support, counseling options, cleanliness, holistic offerings, and the frequency and consistency of meetings. β€œThey say anything to get you and your insurance card in the door,” the anonymous reviewer wrote.

Centennial Peaks Hospital received mostly negative feedback on secondary review sites, earning average ratings of 2.7 out of five stars based on 104 Google reviews[1], 2.5 out of five stars based on 20 Yelp reviews,[2] and 1.4 out of five stars based on 15 CiteHealth reviews[3].

Common complaints across all three sites included poorly run facilities, a lack of therapy, disorganized billing practices, and rude and unhelpful staff. "A truly awful experience," an anonymous alum wrote in a representative review on CiteHealth. "The staff was very uncaring and had no compassion for the clients."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave Centennial Peaks Hospital mixed feedback. While all three noted that staff were supportive and well-trained, and indicated that they were likely to recommend the facility to others, one reported the facility was " old, run down and depressing" and that the food was "bland and unappetizing," but added: "The nursing staff was excellent as well as the treating physician."

Another noted that the program did not offer loved ones a chance to participate in treatment. Offering a two-star rating for family participation, the loved one wrote: "Visiting times were very short and involvement of family was nil." However, two loved ones gave perfect five-star ratings for the level of staff support, as well as four- and five-star ratings for counseling options.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The one staffer polled by Rehabs.com to date praised the facility for its individualized treatment programs and gave the rehab perfect five-star ratings for its overall quality of care, its treatment for co-occurring disorders, and its staff’s level of training. To date, the three individuals polled on the matter gave four- and five-star ratings for the facility's affordability.

CONCLUSION

Universal Health Services (UHS), the psychiatric company that owns Centennial Peaks Hospital, was investigated by Buzzfeed News in 2016 for inappropriate patient admissions to collect insurance money.

A BuzzFeed News analysis of Medicare claims showed that, from at least 2009, UHS hospitals steadily increased the frequency with which they described patients as experiencing suicidal ideation,” Buzzfeed reported. The piece goes on to mention that by 2013, suicidal ideation (suicidal thoughts are grounds for involuntary admission) appeared in β€œmore than half of all of the Medicare claims submitted by UHS hospitals.” [5]

β€œIn the first full year after UHS bought about 100 hospitals from a competitor, Psychiatric Solutions Inc., or PSI, their use of the billing code for suicidal ideation in Medicare claims shot way up β€” more than sixfold overall.”

The piece included a response from UHS: β€œThose statistics, UHS said, were simply evidence of more scrupulous attention to proper coding β€” not of a higher propensity to diagnose suicidal ideation.”

[1]GoogleReviews
[2]https://www.yelp.com/biz/centennial-peaks-hospital-louisville
[3] http://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/colorado/cities/louisville/centennial-peaks-hospital#reviews
