ABOUT RECOVERY RANCH

Located in Santa Ynez, near Santa Barbara, Calif., Recovery Ranch is a long-term residential rehab center for adolescent boys and adult men struggling with substance abuse. The highly structured sober living program is based on 12-step practices and work therapy; residents are employed at small businesses operated by the facility. The facility specifically mentions that it is not able to treat individuals with dual diagnosis, nor does it provide detox services (only 14 percent of california facilities do).

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The centers main focus is on the 12 Steps and the the life principles presented in former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden’s book titled “Wooden.” No other details regarding traditional counseling or psychotherapy related to addiction are provided by the facility. The younger residents are encouraged to continue their education through the facility’s accredited online program. Residents also regularly contribute to community projects and volunteer outside of the facility.

Free time is limited as a part of the recovery process. However, recreational therapy is prioritized and clients are encouraged to participate in an array of sports and social activities. A Santa Barbara league baseball team began representing the rehab center in Spring 2017. Visitation is allowed with family members but must be pre-arranged and scheduled on Sundays.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Most employees are graduates of the Recovery Ranch program and function as house managers, business specialists, recreational leaders, and project coordinators.
