ABOUT BENJAMIN REA OF HEALTHY MINDS

Healthy Minds is a small psychotherapy clinic located just south of the small city of San Luis Obispo, near the San Luis Obispo Regional Airport on California's central coast. The center is home to a number of private clinicians, including Benjamin Rea, a psychotherapist who specializes in treating anxiety, depression, and addiction. He provides both group and one-on-on therapy, as well as counseling for families and couples.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the clinician's website, his approach is to act as a "co-detective," working with clients to uncover the roots of their present difficulties. Treatment is collaborative and highly personalized.

In addition to addiction and mental health problems, Mr. Rea provides therapy for parenting problems, sexual challenges, relationship and family difficulties, and divorce. He also offers a specialized therapy group for men, which meets in the evening every other Tuesday.

Clients tend to meet with the clinician on a weekly basis, and the clinician conducts about a quarter of his practice via Skype.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Benjamin Rea is a licensed clinical social worker. He has been in practice for more than 15 years, and has provided approximately 20,000 hours client counseling. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Healthy Minds as a whole four out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from clients or alumni of Benjamin Rea or Healthy Minds. However, the clinician fared very well on Yelp, earning an average rating of five out of five stars based on 21 reviews (11 of which were unrecommended). [1] With the exception of one reviewer, who noted that treatment was unsuccessful and that they were disappointed to be passed on to another therapist, all other reviewers gave the clinician highly positive feedback.

They described him as a caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable therapist who provides therapy that's nonjudgmental, yet also no-nonsense and effective. "He's a very warm and empathetic guy but also evidence-based rather than overly-dependent on being "nurturing" (we're grownups)," wrote Suzy in a representative review.

Cathy agreed and added that Mr. Rea has helped her greatly in her recovery. "I've been going to Ben for the past 3 years as I was addicted to narcotics and alcohol and needed to see someone who was AA aligned. He is absolutely awesome and always has a plan and suggestions for me," she noted.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous 26-to-39-year-old male, reported that he would recommend Healthy Minds as a whole, though he added that he was currently unsure about its long-term effects on his family member. Nevertheless, he gave Healthy Minds four out of five stars for its family participation and its treatment of co-occurring disorders, and noted that the facility was clean and modern.

FINANCING

Treatment costs $175 for an individual session and $195 for a two-person session. Insurance is accepted on an out-of-network basis only.

[1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/ben-rea-lcsw-san-luis-obispo
