<p><strong>ABOUT FRIENDSHIP HOUSE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN INDIANS OF SAN FRANCISCO</strong></p> <p>The Friendship House Association of American Indians of San Francisco is one of the oldest treatment organizations dedicated to serving <strong>Native Americans struggling with substance abuse</strong>. The residential program for adults entails a structured schedule of <strong>group and individual counseling</strong>, as well as traditional talking circles to confront emotional and mental issues that may contribute to addictive behavior. Clients also participate in a <strong>Native American-inspired 12-step program</strong>.</p> <p>Along with evidence-based methods, clients also participate in <strong>traditional sweat lodges, smudging ceremonies, and powwow dancing ceremonies</strong>. In addition to educational classes on chemical dependency and developing coping skills, the Friendship House also provides G.E.D. preparation classes and testing for clients through a local charter school. </p> <p>Located in Oakland, Calif., the Women's Lodge provides specialized programming for expectant mothers and mothers with young children (up to age five). Offering similar programming as the adult residential program, the Women's Lodge also provides parenting classes, <strong>child development sessions</strong>, family counseling, and assists with family reunification. Both primary residential treatment <strong>programs last up to six months</strong>, though women may stay in the Women's Lodge for up to one year.</p> <p>Once a client completes the primary residential program, clients may choose to enroll in the <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">extended care program</a>. Lasting for up to an additional six months, the extended care program assists clients to <strong>locate housing, resume development, job training, and education placement</strong>. Clients continue to enjoy access the counseling sessions, case management, and relapse prevention classes.</p> <p>The outpatient program for youth entails substance abuse education classes, life skills training, <strong>powwow dancing and drumming</strong>, and violence prevention classes. In addition, the program provides academic tutoring and mentoring. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The Friendship House Association of American Indians of San Francisco employs a team of Native Americans experienced in traditional Native American practices and evidence-based treatment methods.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The residential program for adults can <strong>accommodate up to 80 residents</strong>, and clients may share a bedroom with up to four roommates.
