ABOUT CRASH BILL DAWSON RESIDENTIAL RECOVERY PROGRAM

Operating since 1970 in various locations throughout San Diego, California, CRASH (Community Resources and Self Help Center) offers residential treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorder. It's one of 197 (15 percent) of non-hospital substance abuse treatment facilities in California to also provide medical detox.

The Bill Dawson Residential Recovery Program is the facility’s co-ed residential option and provides long-term treatment that lasts more than 30 days — a modality offered by 34 percent of all residential substance abuse treatment facilities in the state. CRASH also has two shorter term residential programs at other locations.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at the Bill Dawson Residential Recovery Program uses the therapeutic community model and holistic treatment modalities. The program is designed to encourage positive lifestyle changes for residential clients through social, peer interactions. Length of stay is typically four to six months, though it may continue longer based on client needs.

The environment in the recovery program is highly structured and activities include individual counseling, group therapy, vocational and educational services, recovery planning, and relapse prevention work, in addition to supervised family nights. Throughout treatment, the facility uses random drug testing and 24/7 monitoring to keep clients on track. Aftercare services are also available.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is no information available regarding staff credentials. However, two alumni polled by Rehabs.com at this time of writing gave perfect five-star ratings for staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information on CRASH's website regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. Two of the three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stats for its accommodations and amenities, while the third alum gave them a rating of three stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the four alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, two gave the Bill Dawson Residential Recovery Program highly positive reviews, one offered mixed reviews, and one provided negative feedback. Kenny and M.J.S. both noted that they would recommend the rehab to friends and family, and awarded the facility four or five out of five stars for the quality of its lead counselor, the overall quality of its group and one-on-one therapy, and the level of its staff's training and experience. "Program shows you how to own your actions, and then to change those behaviors so remain clean and sober," M.J.S. noted.

Naomi, the mixed reviewer, told Rehabs.com that while the food was good and the accommodations were comfortable, the rehab could stand to improve its holistic offerings, its connectivity and visitor policies, its counseling options, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders. The anonymous negative reviewer simply noted that treatment was ineffective and that communication and support were the facilities two main weaknesses.

The Bill Dawson Residential Recovery Program earned two five-star ratings on Google[1], along with a comment from Robert thanking the rehab for its kindness and support.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The one loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, B.O., gave the program four or five out of five stars for its family participation, its connectivity and visitor policies, its counseling options, its cleanliness, and its staff's level of training and experience. “Everything was good,” they informed Rehabs.com.

FINANCING

According to CRASH’s website, the program is funded in part by the county. CiteHealth reports that the facility offers sliding scale fees and some financial assistance.
