Editorial Review

ABOUT SET FREE WOMAN'S RANCH

Based in Southern California, Set Free Ranch is a faith-based discipleship program that runs two gender-separate treatment facilities for adults struggling with substance use disorder, homelessness, and/or physical abuse. The Women's Ranch, which is just outside of Los Angeles in San Bernardino, provides long-term residential treatment and requires a minimum commitment of 60 days. It's among the 33.6 percent of non-hospital-based treatment centers in California to offer a residential program that lasts longer than 30 days.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Set Free Ranch includes Biblical training, spiritual counseling, and daily Bible study. All activities are gender-specific, and the program is one of 715 California treatment facilities in California (54.5 percent of all facilities in the state) to provide programming tailored to women. During residential care, residents may participate in group and individual counseling, attend 12-step meetings, and participate in skill-building workshops.

Per the program’s webpage, there is no specific criteria for admission, though women are asked β€œto participate in the desire to serve God, grounding themselves in the Word of God and drawing closer to a personal relationship with Jesus.”

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The senior pastor at Set Free Ranch is a certified drug, alcohol, and addictions counselor who teaches for the Association of Christian Alcohol and Drug Counselors (ACADC) Institute. The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the organization regarding its living arrangements. According to the facility's website, all residential clients must participate in a 60-day "black-out" period in which leaving the campus (even for court or doctor's appointments) is prohibited.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

L.M.S., the one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, gave Set Free Women's Ranch mostly positive feedback. The 40-to-59-year-old female awarded the facility five out of five stars for its cleanliness, and four out of five stars for the overall quality of its counseling, the overall quality of its group therapy, the frequency and consistency of its meetings, and its visitor policies. She noted that she would recommend the program to others (though she did admit it may not be for everyone) and wrote: "This program is bible based. It was a good foundation for me. I need both a relationship with God as well as working the 12 step program."

On Google[1], the Set Free ministry as a whole earned an average rating of 3.8 out of five stars based on 17 reviews. The majority of former clients and church attendees who left feedback described it as a warm and welcoming faith-based facility. "If you need help to change your life, this is the place to go!" wrote Raymond in a representative review.

FINANCING

According to the organization's website, there are no fees for treatment. Set Free Ranch is one of only 66 facilities in California (just five percent of all facilities in the state) to provide treatment free of charge.

CONCLUSION

Set Free Ministries partners with Kathy's House, another California-based ministry, that provides outreach and shelters to homeless individuals. Residents may be admitted to Set Free through the outreach services of Kathy's House. Kathy's House also operates thrift stores, which may help to fund the services of Set Free Ministries.

[1] GoogleReviews
