ABOUT CLEAN & SOBER

Clean & Sober is a nonprofit serving homeless and disadvantaged men and women who are struggling with substance abuse by offering long-term sober housing placements. Its administrative office and walk-in center is located in the Dos Rios Triangle, less than two miles northeast of downtown Sacramento, Calif.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clean & Sober’s self-help program is based on the 12-Step model, and begins with an assessment and eligibility screening at the walk-in office. Clients may stay in the program for up to a year or longer.

The program aims to give clients the time and amenities to learn to live in sobriety, tend to neglected health issues, seek employment and/or education, and reunite with their families. Clean & Sober’s website does not give extensive information about the recovery program, but reviews submitted to Rehabs.com indicate that the therapeutic focus is on group counseling.

According to Clean & Sober’s website, the average attendance at 12-step group meetings at its walk-in center is 32 individuals.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Clean & Sober is staffed by an executive director and residential program manager. The facility does not currently provide information regarding staff qualifications.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to Clean & Sober’s website, residents live in two communities called New Start I and II containing 10 townhomes each, accommodating a total of 65 residents. Six users polled by Rehabs.com gave on average 4.33 stars for the quality of the accommodations.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Four out of five alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave perfect five-star ratings for the overall effectiveness of treatment, and one added anonymously: “Have me the tools n strengths along with knowledge of the 12 step programs. Allowed me ample time to work on my steps as well as build a solid foundation.” Two alumni polled on the staff's level of training and experience and the overall quality of group and individual therapy gave four- and five-star ratings for these categories. Though they frequently rated the program favorably, most alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave low one- and two-star ratings for holistic offerings and mediocre to low ratings for exercise and leisure options. One anonymous alum also felt overcrowding was an issue.

On New Start Residential Recovery's Facebook page, which it can manage, the facility had a 4.6-star rating based on 10 reviews.[1] “The best place to be at if you want to get clean,” Jessica wrote, providing one of the only comment on the site.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive feedback. One gave ratings of five out of five stars for staff experience and family participation, but added their loved one “left only 6 months ago,” so they couldn’t yet account for the long-term success of the program. As a strength, they wrote “intergration of family into the loved ones recovery” and when asked about weaknesses of the program, the loved one noted that their friend or family member was not allowed to be on medications of any kind during treatment.

The other alum gave five stars for accommodations and amenities, cleanliness, affordability, 12-Step inclusion, and likelihood of recommending the facility."It has just the right amount of program and time to rest," they wrote, adding "It may take a day or two to get in."

FINANCING

Clean & Sober does not deny services to any client based on their inability to pay. Monthly fees are charged on a sliding scale — the maximum cost is $275, plus $75 for food. For those with no income, Clean & Sober subsidizes the entire cost of treatment.

The nonprofit also operates TurnAround Coffee House, which provides job skills to resident volunteers and helps fund the sober living program.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/Clean-Sober-New-Start-349759998651/reviews/?ref=page_internal
