ABOUT PEGGY ALBRECHT FRIENDLY HOUSE

For more than fifty years, Friendly House has provided residential treatment to women struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. According to the facility’s website, it was the first residential treatment program for women in the country, located in Los Angeles. Detox services are not available on-site, and women must not have consumed alcohol or drugs for 72 hours prior to admission. A sober living facility is available to women who have completed the residential program and seek a transitional environment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

With a focus on achieving recovery from addiction, renewed family relationships, and reintegration into the community, this traditional residential program is based on the 12-step model. To achieve their goals, residents of Friendly House attend four daily groups, nightly Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, and weekly process groups. Weekly case management meetings determine the client’s process, and serve as the place where clients set goals for the coming week.

The facility also works with several local medical and mental health organizations to provide additional services to clients as needed. As a holistic care option, residents participate in yoga.

Friendly House’s sober living program provides transitional care to adult women who have completed the residential program but still require structured care in a supportive, homelike environment. Former clients of Friendly House are encouraged to join the organization’s alumni group, called Grateful Hearts.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes a program director and a program manager, both of whom are certified advanced alcohol and drug counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Peggy Albrecht Friendly House operates two residential facilities. The main home, a seven-bedroom house located in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles, accommodates 16 women. The sober living residence, which is in Culver City, is a five-bedroom home that accommodates 11 women. Of the two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date, one evaluated the facility’s accommodations and amenities, giving it a rating of five out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Peggy Albrecht Friendly House highly positive reviews. Ligia credited the facility with bringing her back to life, while R.B. awarded the rehab all four and five out of five stars across 15 different evaluated metrics, including holistic and leisure offerings, staff support, connectivity and visitor policies, cleanliness, the staff’s level of training and experience, the counselors’ respect for client treatment preferences, frequency and consistency of meetings, and overall quality of group counseling. The reviewer described the rehab as “very caring but firm on the rules.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, the rehab accepts most PPO insurance plans. Potential clients can verify their insurance coverage on the rehab’s website. One of the two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date reported using HMO/PPO insurance and told Rehabs.com that the care, treatment, and services they received were worth the cost.
