<p><strong>ABOUT MCALISTER INSTITUTE – EAST COUNTY REGIONAL RECOVERY CENTER (ECRRC)</strong></p> <p>Headquartered in El Cajon, Calif., about 15 miles from San Diego, McAlister Institute offers a full continuum of <strong>substance abuse and mental health services</strong>. Through multiple locations, the <strong>nonprofit</strong> provides inpatient programs, outpatient treatment, supportive housing, and specialized programming for teens, the homeless population, and monolingual Spanish speakers. </p> <p>The East County Regional Recovery Center (ECRRC) exclusively provides <strong>outpatient treatment for adults</strong> struggling with substance abuse and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders.</a> Only about 24 percent of all treatment centers in California offer mental health and substance abuse services. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, all clients undergo an <strong>initial assessment</strong>, which helps inform the development of their individualized treatment plan. </p> <p>Clients receive <strong>case management services</strong> and typically participate in a coordinated mix of <strong>individual therapy, mental health counseling, group therapy, ongoing recovery support, group counseling</strong>, vocation training, treatment planning, and linkages to community resources. </p> <p>While East County Regional Recovery Center doesn't offers residential care or detox, other McAlister Institute facilities offer adult and prenatal detox, along with teen and adult residential programs. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, McAlister Institute is governed by a board of directors that includes a <strong>licensed clinical social worker</strong> and a licensed marriage and family therapist. </p> <p>Of the four individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, two gave five out of five stars for staff support. One alum gave one star. The other person gave four stars for the staff's level of training and experience. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed feedback. One alum gave negative commentary and just two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. The alum also indicated they wouldn't re-enter East County Regional Recovery Center and wouldn't recommend it to friends and family. "The staff was not supportive," the alum wrote. </p> <p>However, the other alum gave positive feedback, and five stars for treatment effectiveness and holistic inclusion. The alum also indicated they would recommend the center and would re-enter. "Really enjoyed this facility," an alum wrote. "The facility had great consistency, holistic offerings and I received a lot of respect."</p> <p><strong>The 13 individuals who left Google Reviews for McAlister Institute at the time of this writing gave an average of 3.5 out of five stars.</strong> However, it's important to note the reviews are for all facilities, not just East County Regional Recovery Center. Positive feedback included a caring and awesome staff. But, negative reviews called the center the worst and an ineffective program. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> </p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mostly positive reviews. One loved one gave above-average ratings of four and five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, cleanliness, counseling options, and its overall quality of addiction and mental health treatment. They gave the program a slightly lower rating of three stars for its family involvement. “great counseling and educational programs,” the loved one wrote. </p> <p>The other loved one polled also gave McAlister positive feedback, awarding the facility all four and five stars for family participation, connectivity and visitor policies, counseling options, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. “It's a clean and healthy environment for sobriety and recovery,” they wrote.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>To date, the seven staffers or former staffers who left reviews on Indeed gave an average of 2.4 out of five stars. Staffers complained about micromanaging. While, positive feedback included being able to help others.
