ABOUT MIRACLES DETOX

Miracles Detox, located in Culver City, Calif., offers acute and 12-step-based detox programs for adults seeking recovery from chemical dependency. Miracles Detox offers inpatient, intensive outpatient program (IOP), and day treatment levels of care.

According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, detox programs in California are offered at 14 percent of non-hospital inpatient facilities and 2.6 percent of hospital-based facilities. Miracles Detox is a division of Southern California Hospital at Culver City, which also offers behavioral health, emergency care, and cardiovascular services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Southern California Hospital at Culver City’s Miracles Detox program combines educational programming with 12-step support groups, involving families in the recovery process whenever possible.

The acute inpatient detox program is designed primarily for individuals who require medical supervision throughout the detoxification process. After a minimum stay of three days, clients may proceed onto the 12-step medical detox program.

Once physically stabilized, clients may utilize IOP or its day program as a form of aftercare. Outpatient groups focus on coping skills, communication, problem solving, social issues, and other life skills essential to independent living, as well as stress and anger management.

IOP groups last 60 minutes, and clients in IOP must attend three groups each day, three times per week. The day program last for four hours per day. For an additional year after discharge, the facility offers weekly aftercare meetings to support clients in their continuous recovery.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility's website, the program employs counselors and maintains an around-the-clock presence of nurses and doctors. Though the hospital's website provides no further information regarding staff credentials, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date offered moderate ratings for the staff's experience and training

Staff Experience and Training: 3.3/5

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The inpatient program treatment takes place in Southern California Hospital at Culver City’s 420-bed campus. According to its website, Miracles Detox offers a "hospital-safe environment with around-the-clock nurses & doctors." Clients in IOP receive lunches and transportation if necessary. While few details on accommodations are available, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com gave positive ratings concerning the facility's cleanliness.

Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4.3/5

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

R.M.E., the sole alum polled by Rehabs.com to date provided feedback that was mixed. In particular, R.M.E. gave four out of five stars to treatment effectiveness, cleanliness of facilities, visitor policy, and staff support. All other categories evaluated received three stars or less, including counseling options and family participation.

On Yelp, the hospital, as a whole, received an average two out of five-star rating based on over 200 reviews.[1] However, only one reviewer left feedback that was specific to the detox program. The alum, Monique, gave a one-star rating and criticized the wait time, in particular. "I've been waiting for 4 hours to be admitted here for detox," she wrote. "So if you're like me and going through withdrawal just sitting around, don't come here. You will suffer." Monique did, however, refer to the detox staff as impeccable and also described the facility as "clean and private."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date left mixed feedback. Positive reviews tended to focus on accurate diagnoses and effective medical care. An anonymous representative reviewer wrote that β€œThe medical care was extraordinary.” Reviewers also gave high marks to the facility's cleanliness and meals and nutrition.

However, the three loved ones disagreed on almost all other categories, family participation (five-, three- and one-star ratings) and counseling options (four-, three- and one-star ratings.). The lone category that received unanimously negative feedback was the program's holistic offerings.

One loved one, S.K., expressed frustration with a lack of therapeutic and recreational activities available: β€œNo library. No gymnasium or exercise facilities. No recreation facilities.”

FINANCING

Miracles Detox accepts most major health insurance plans such as Aetna, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. IOP is also covered by Medicare, while detox services are covered by both Medicare and Tricare.

[1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/southern-california-hospital-culver-city
