<p><strong>ABOUT BREAKAWAY HEALTH CORPORATION</strong></p> <p>In suburban Costa Mesa, Calif., 40 miles south of Los Angeles, BreakAway Health Corporation offers intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for adults and adolescents struggling with substance use and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>. One of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CA16.pdf" target="_blank">471 for-profit facilities</a> in the state of California, Breakaway also offers a day treatment program for teens only, as well as <strong>transitional living</strong>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p><strong>All treatment programs at BreakAway are grounded in the 12-Steps</strong>. Treatment plans incorporate family members whenever appropriate, are individualized, and broken down into three separate phases.</p> <p>There are <strong>IOP tracks for teens and adults</strong>. The IOP for teens meets each weekday evening (excluding Wednesday) between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. and consists of peer groups, family therapy, and <strong>educational sessions</strong> that cover a range of topics including codependency, relapse prevention, <strong>anger management</strong>, self-care, and more. Teens struggling with a dual diagnosis follow an integrated mental health treatment plan.</p> <p>Scheduled both weekday afternoons and evenings, the adult IOP includes weekly <strong>individual therapy</strong>, life coaching, relapse prevention, psychoeducation on addiction, meditation, exercise, life-skills training, mental health evaluations, drug screens, and 12-step work. There’s also a 12-week minimum commitment for <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare</a>.</p> <p>For teens who were unsuccessful in the IOP and those transitioning out of residential care, there’s a <strong>day program</strong> that involves five hours of programming each weekday afternoon, as well as about three hours of programming in the evenings twice a week.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The treatment team includes a psychiatrist, a marriage and family therapist, a clinical social worker, a licensed vocational nurse, and several certified addiction counselors.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Although Rehabs.com has yet to receive any reviews from former clients, <strong>feedback across secondary sources was mixed</strong>.</p> <p>On Citehealth, for example, where eight reviewers shared a slightly-above average rating of 2.63 out of five stars, one referred to the eight months they spent in treatment as “nothing but destructive” for their schooling and friendships.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Scott gave similar feedback on Google reviews, where BreakAway has a pair of five-star reviews and one two-star review: “I feel like I missed out on a year of high school education as the material was something for failing students, like the ones in trouble with the law. Both of the anonymous reviewers surveyed by Rehabs.com to date agreed that the counselors were great, each one awarding the facility four out of five stars for staff support, family programming, and pricing.</p> <p>On Yelp, where the facility has an average rating of four out of five stars from five individuals to date, Kim shared her family’s success story: “My daughter not only dealt with behavioral issues but while there was able to not only get caught up with high school but graduated early & graduated from the program.”<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-4"><sup>[4]</sup></a></small></p> <p>Reviewer Cheryl, who posted across several review sites, boasted that the facility helped her son, whom she claimed was "out of control, violent, ran away often and had issues with drugs and alcohol” when he first entered treatment. “He has been drug and alcohol free for two years now…It is truly a night and day difference. I HIGHLY recommend this place...,” she exclaimed.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The nonprofit accepts Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Coventry, Humana, Value Options, and Optum Health, amongst other insurance plans.
