ABOUT KAISER PERMANENTE MAIN STREET HEALTH PAVILION

In operation since 1945, Kaiser Permanente is the largest integrated, managed healthcare organization in the United States. It operates in eight states with 620 medical offices, including one in Stockton. The Carson facility is one of California’s 669 private, non-profit treatment facilities.

The Kaiser Permanente Main Street Health Pavilion in Carson, Calif., offers outpatient treatment services for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for chemical dependency, as well as seeking help with nutrition and overeating. Although medication-assisted therapy (MAT) may be available in other Kaiser Permanente offices, the Carson location does not provide pharmacy services or detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process at the Kaiser Permanente Main Street Health Pavilion (KPMSHP) begins with a scheduled appointment with an intake specialist. Clients can call and make an appointment at any time during the week except for Sundays, when the offices are closed.

If it is an emergency, clients should contact emergency services or the facility’s emergency services line. Clients meet with an intake specialist that can guide them through the admissions process, which includes handling administrative concerns and determining the correct treatment options.

The treatment method at KPMSHP focuses on the disease model of addiction. Clients are enrolled in outpatient programs designed to help them identify and address the underlying causes of their addiction. While in treatment, clients are encouraged to participate in community support-focused groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Education is another important component of treatment. Clients and their families can use the facility’s resources to learn more about addiction and possible treatment methods. Education resources are only offered to families in 66 percent of U.S. treatment facilities. However, these education resources can make a big difference in how families are prepared to help clients through the recovery process.

Treatments for adolescents are also available. In California, KPMSHP is a part of the 21.3 percent of treatment facilities that offer treatment options to adolescents.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The team at KPMSHP includes a team of substance abuse counselors, as well as medical professionals and administrative staff members.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received feedback from a single alum about KPMSHP. This person wrote that the strengths of the program included “great staff, sincere support, (and a) variety of programs.” One weakness of the program was that the “educational materials are outdated.” This person gave the facility five stars for its holistic treatment options, its family participation, its affordability, and its cost worthiness. The responder wrote favorably about their experience. “I would recommend. The experience was positive, and I learned a lot about my condition beyond what I read. The staff is great.”

On Google, Kaiser Permanente Main Street Health Education Pavilion has a pair of five out of five-star reviews and a single four-star review.[1] In the only written commentary to date, Alex wrote: “I like this place their really nice.” On YellowPages.com, Ana gave Kaiser Permanente five out of five stars and wrote: “Excellent service fast and friendly.”[2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received feedback from two loved ones about this location of Kaiser Permanente. While loved ones indicated excellent family involvement, they gave three out of five stars or lower for the treatment quality, staff quality, and the number of counseling options. “Poorly trained staff. Use another psychiatrist if concurrent mental issues exist outside of drug use,” wrote an anonymous family member. This respondent gave the facility a three-star rating for its holistic offerings, counseling options, and whether they felt treatment was worth the cost.

Another anonymous family member wrote that one strength of the facility was that it was “covered by insurance.” This person also wrote that a weakness was the program’s “reliance upon aa model.” They gave the facility three out of five stars for family participation, affordability, admin/discharge procedures, and treatment of co-occurring disorders.

FINANCING

Kaiser Permanente offers its own healthcare coverage plans, which may be subsidized through the Affordable Care Act., depending on the client’s income and ability to pay. Kaiser Permanente of Carson is also one of the 35% of U.S. facilities that accepts **Medicare and the 64% that accepts Medicaid.

CONCLUSION

As a large healthcare organization in the country, Kaiser Permanente is focused on providing resources that promote preventive care as much as they promote active medical care. Its Facebook page provides education resources for the community on a regular basis, which are designed to educate the community on preventative care.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.yellowpages.com/carson-ca/mip/kaiser-permanente-main-street-health-pavilion-12715554
