ABOUT THE HAVEN AT PISMO

The Haven at Pismo is a luxury treatment center that provides medically supervised detoxification, residential treatment, and various levels of outpatient care for adult men and women grappling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Programming takes place in gender-separate settings, incorporating a full range of evidence-based practices, therapeutic services, and experiential therapies to help clients build a strong foundation for sobriety.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at The Haven begins with a comprehensive evaluation, assessing a client’s biological, psychological, social, and medical background to determine an individualized treatment plan and the level of care most needed. Individuals with co-occurring disorders, including eating disorders, depression and anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), can find treatment in the following tracks.

Men and women requiring the structure and support of a 24-hour environment attend individual, group, and family therapy, develop life skills strategies through training and workshops, and receive medical and psychiatric attention, all within gender-separate residential recovery homes. Those stepping down from (or not in need of) residential care have access to similar services under a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which offers as many as six hours of treatment, six days a week. There’s an intensive outpatient (IOP) track that consists of three three-hour sessions each week as well as outpatient counseling designed to accommodate various scheduling needs.

While attending therapy and psychoeducational groups, participants of residential treatment are encouraged to take full advantage of the facility’s expansive holistic curriculum. Individual treatment plans may include acupuncture and massage therapy, yoga and meditation, exercise, equine therapy, and nutritional counseling and education. As the facility is set within proximity to the beach, clients have opportunity for surfing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, and more.

The Haven at Pismo also runs a transitional living home for men who’ve completed residential treatment or currently enrolled in either PHP or IOP care. The home provides men with opportunity to practice what they’ve learnt in treatment while furthering their education, practicing for upcoming interviews, and learning effective ways of searching for jobs. Drug testings occur regularly.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Clinical staff at the Haven include a board-certified addiction psychiatrist, a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), a psychiatric technician, and licensed therapists. Transitional living homes are run by on-site managers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Residents stay in homes specific to gender. Features of the large, well-appointed Mesa House for women include private and shared rooms, meeting spaces, and an outdoor pool with a fireplace. The Solana House for men offers a pool, numerous common spaces, and a deck with seating and seaside views.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In a critical review shared with Rehabs.com, alum A.C. referred to the Haven as “a joke” and its staff unprofessional, disorganized, and underqualified.

In addition, though the facility has above-average ratings of 4.1 and 3.9 stars out of five, respectively, from 17 Google reviewers and 11 Facebook users, feedback on these sites was very much mixed.[1][2] Some reviewers credited the staff with helping them build up hope and self-confidence, one calling their experience “life changing,” yet others found the staff to be rude and disrespectful.

FINANCING

The Haven at Pismo accepts many major insurance plans including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, Magellan, Value Options, and more.

[1] https://goo.gl/9D3qpH
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/thehavenatpismo/reviews/?ref=page_internal
