Editorial Review

ABOUT SPRINGBOARD HOME FOR YOUTH IN CRISIS

Springboard Home for Youth in Crisis provides faith-based residential treatment to girls aged 12 to 17 who are struggling with substance use disorder and/or other life-controlling problems. A part of Teen Challenge of Arizona, the facility has been in operation since 1976 and is located in Tucson. Detox services are not provided on-site; according to Springboard's website, the program takes a "cold-turkey" approach to withdrawal from nicotine, alcohol, and narcotics.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Springboard is Christ-centered and utilizes Christian counseling methods instead of traditional psychotherapy. The program is designed to help girls address their problems by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The program typically lasts three to five months and includes church attendance three times a week, as well as daily devotions, regular physical education, vocational training, and 20 hours of weekly Bible study and Christian education. Clients also participate in faith-based individual, group, and family counseling, and are assigned household chores.

Family is considered an important part of the treatment process. Parents are required to participate in family counseling, weekly phone calls, workshops and retreats, and family counseling assignments.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team is made up of Biblical counselors who have experience working with at-risk youth. All counselors are overseen by master's-level staff and must have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree. The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Springboard four out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Set on more than 10 acres of desert land, Springboard houses girls in two large, dorm-style rooms that accommodate 10 residents each. Special menus cannot be created for vegans or vegetarians; according to the facility's website, all clients will be required to "eat what is served here at Springboard, which will include meat and other proteins." The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Springboard a positive review, awarding the facility four or five out of five stars across most evaluated metrics, including treatment effectiveness, family participation, exercise and leisure activities, cleanliness, affordability, and administrative and discharge procedures. "Helped my daughter out of her addiction, and also helped her resolve some of her issues with her dad," they wrote.

FINANCING

According to the facility's website, the cost of the program is $24,000. Scholarships and financial aid opportunities are offered.
