Editorial Review

ABOUT EXODUS COMMUNITY SERVICES

In a residential area five miles northeast of central Tucson sits the headquarters of Exodus Community Services, a network of six sober living facilities in the neighborhood. Across its centers, Exodus offers long-term transitional treatment for adult men and women, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable communities: a third of clients are referred by the criminal justice system, and almost all are reliant on Exodus for food, shelter, and the other necessities for getting back on their feet.

Exodus is among the 49.7 percent of Arizona facilities that operates on a private nonprofit basis, and among the 35.2 percent to accept criminal justice clients. Exodus does not support the use of maintenance medications such as Suboxone and methadone, and prospective clients using these medication will be required to taper their dose and ultimately stop entirely.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment is long-term, requiring at least a 90-day commitment. It's also strongly based on the 12-Steps: clients are required to attend four 12-step meetings weekly, get a sponsor, work the steps, and participate in one hour of spiritual activities each week. These measures are couched in a β€œcommunity approach”, providing peer support through volunteers who are in recovery themselves.

As well as working the 12-Steps, residents are required to get a job and work throughout their stay. Household rules also include chores, curfews, mandatory house meetings, and maintaining clean living quarters β€” all designed to help clients learn to be self-sufficient.

The program is split into three phases, and in order to graduate, a resident must have 90 days of continuous sobriety and show commitment to their 12-step work, their house responsibilities, and their duty to share their knowledge and experiences with others in recovery.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center’s website indicates Exodus is governed by a board of directors and staffed by a community of unpaid volunteers. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five stars for its level of staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Exodus currently has six gender-separate homes for men and women. For women, there's a unpublished address thats location is never published, for residents' safety. If staff approve, residents may be approved for overnight or 48-hour home visits during their stay. Few further details regarding living quarters are available, but the single reviewer surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five stars for its cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet surveyed any Exodus alumni, but the center has mostly positive feedback on secondary sites, with average ratings of 4.1 out of five stars based on 14 reviews on Google and 4.8 stars based on eight opinions on Facebook (where the center can manage its own page).[1] [2]

The reviewers repeatedly stressed that Exodus was a good place to get back on track after hitting a very low point, and that it helped them connect to the local recovery community. "My recovery started here and I'm still on the path. Exodus was the Blessing my life needed to change. They accepted me without any money," K.C. wrote in a typical comment on Facebook.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single reviewer polled by Rehabs.com to date, a parent, gave positive feedback. "The staff care. They are into people and their probs," they wrote anonymously, giving the center five stars for its family involvement, addiction treatment, and counseling options. However, a reviewer on Google felt that although the center helped their sister, they were concerned about staff favoritism and even alleged drug use on the premises.

FINANCING

Residents must pay an unspecified weekly service charge, though some reviewers noted that they received treatment despite having nothing to offer, indicating that the fee is sometimes waived until the resident is able to earn an income.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/Exodus-Community-Services-1414678448751993/reviews/?ref=page_internal
