From there, clients begin the 50-hour program that includes 30 hours of individual and family therapy, and 20 hours of group therapy, and focuses on a variety of topics including codependency, mindfulness, and anger management. During the week, clients also attend psycho-educational workshops and participate in experiential programming, including equine-assisted therapy.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to its website, Psychological Counseling Services employs some 25 licensed therapists; most are master’s- or Ph.D.-level.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Although Psychological Counseling Services does not provide lodging for clients during its IOP, it provides a list of recommended accommodations a short distance from the facility. This former client also awarded five stars for how likely they would recommend the facility and for the staff’s level of training and experience. They told Rehabs.com that a strength of the center was: “Staff. Combo of group and individual sessions.” They noted a weakness was that the center “Let outside therapist disrupt some sessions.”

On Google, Psychological Counseling Services received largely favorable feedback. [1] As of this writing, four individuals (two self-identified as alumni) awarded the facility an average of four stars out of five. Of the total, three reviews were the top five out of five stars and the remaining one review was just one star. Alum Nicholas, a five-star reviewer, wrote: “This place changed my life. Completely.” However, alum Jeanine claimed the facility was a “cold, disorganized, corporate practice with a ridiculous amount of red tape” and ended her review with a warning: “DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!”

Five reviewers (alumni) on Yelp at the time of this writing submitted mixed opinions; three offered positive perspectives of the facility with five- and four-star ratings, while the other two provided one-star ratings, for an average of three out of five stars. [2] Renee, a four-star reviewer, was thankful for the financial counseling she received and highlighted the helpfulness of her counselor: “She was patient, kind and straight-forward. I appreciated her honest assessment of my situation and her advice.” Kristine, who awarded five stars, noted the program’s flexibility and collaborative nature and wrote: “They utilized many different approaches and if one was not a fit, then they used ones that were. The treatment process was a joint effort.”

However, the two one-star Yelp reviewers, claimed the staff lacked concern and that the program was “overpriced” and not individualized enough to meet needs. “Incompetent therapists throw a variety of helping modalities at clients without attempting to cater treatment to each individual,” Eva wrote, pointing out its “one-size-fits-all approach which is bound to fail.”

FINANCING

Pricing for Psychological Counseling Services’ week-long IOP ranges from $7,000 to $9,000 for individuals and $12,000 to $14,000 for couples. The center requires a $1,000 non-refundable per-week deposit or $2,500 if received less than seven days before the IOP starts. The facility does not accept or process insurance, but will provide a financial packet that may be used by clients to submit to their insurance plan for reimbursement for treatment costs.

[1] https://goo.gl/eS1Meg

[2] https://www.yelp.com/biz/psychological-counseling-services-scottsdale-2
