ABOUT LIFEWELL BEHAVIORAL WELLNESS PINCHOT GARDENS (GMHSA)

Lifewell formed in 2011 after two long-standing organizations (New Arizona Family and Triple R Behavioral Health) merged. With locations throughout the Phoenix metro area, Lifewell Behavioral Wellness provides General Mental Health & Substance Abuse (GMHSA) treatment and related support services to low-income clients.

The nonprofit agency's Pinchot Gardens facility is a long-term residential facility where women can live with their children while receiving treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental or physical health conditions. It is one of 73 long-term residential facilities in Arizona.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

While living in structured housing, clients participate in intensive, evidence- and strengths-based therapy in the site's central building. Psychiatric evaluation services are available, and women receive support in managing their own medications.

According to the facility's website, individual and group counseling approaches are trauma-informed. A 2016 federal government mental health facilities document also lists cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing among the treatment modalities utilized at Pinchot Gardens. Educational sessions cover whole-person health and wellness, parenting, stress management, and coping and communication skills.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Lifewell employs more than 400 individuals and treatment team members listed on the facility's website include psychiatrists, nurses, master's level therapists, licensed substance abuse counselors, and peer support specialists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

This facility serves about 350 women and children each year, according to the Pinchot Gardens web page. An Arizona state government treatment facility document lists the residential capacity as 53.

Housing and the treatment center are located in a secure housing complex in a dense residential area with nearby stores and restaurants, according to Google photos. The 2016 federal report referenced elsewhere in this review notes that smoking is allowed in designated areas.

Children living with mothers in the treatment program are given nutritious meals and access to indoor and outdoor play areas. In Arizona, Pinchot Gardens is among the only 2.3 percent of facilities to provide accommodations for client's children.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received survey responses from one former client. They rated the effectiveness of treatment five stars out of five. When asked whether they would recommend the facility to others, the alum gave a rating of four stars. The facility's accommodations and holistic options did not fair as well, receiving ratings of only two out of five stars each.

Reviews on secondary sites were mostly positive. On Google, 12 reviewers gave an average rating of 3.7 out of five stars. "This is definitely the place to go if you are ready to make a change" wrote alum Diana, giving the facility a five star review. "This is a top tier program," agreed Tanya. "If you find yourself in their care, count yourself blessed."[1]

On Lifewell's official Facebook page, which the facility may have the ability to control, 35 reviewers gave an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars. Comments from alumni were conflicting in regards to the staff. "This place is awesome counselors there really care for their client's" wrote Anabelle, though another alum, Holly, disagreed, writing: "They do not seem to care about their patients at all." [2]

FINANCING

According to the Lifewell website, Medicaid is accepted and state funding is available to support clients' treatment.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/LifewellBW/reviews/
