Editorial Review

ABOUT THE CHANGING LIVES CENTER FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN

A part of Phoenix Rescue Mission in Ariz., Changing Lives Center for Women & Children is a long-term residential program designed specifically for adult women and women with young children (under 12) who require treatment for chemical dependency and substance abuse.

A Christian-based program, Changing Lives offers comprehensive substance abuse and vocational training to help women overcome addiction and find gainful employment. The facility does not provide detoxification, and according to the intake application, clients must be fully detoxed, spend 72 hours clean, and able to pass a drug test in order to be admitted.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According the facility’s website, Changing Lives Center for Women & Children is the only long-term, faith-based recovery program in the region offering services to women and their children. It lasts 12 to 18 months and is divided into three distinct phases. The first is “Foundations” where clients learn basic living skills, attend groups and classes that focus on Christ-centered recovery, and undergo an academic and vocational assessment, which assists with treatment.

The second phase is “Intensive Residential Discipleship” and lasts five months. It focuses on counseling, educational classes, and peer groups. Clients may also seek family recovery services with Sunday visitation and family counseling. Residents may begin attending community-based support groups, including 12-step meetings. Clients are also placed on a vocational development track to gain hands-on skills and experience in one or many areas.

The third phase and final five months is “Servant Leadership Training”. clients maintain their employment while assuming new responsibilities within the program community. Upon completing residency, graduates are supported by a six-month aftercare program. Alumni receive support from the aftercare coordinator, complete monthly progress reports, and participate in the Alumni Association.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facilities president and CEO is a Certified Addictions Counselor, a Certified Clinical Supervisor, a Licensed Christian Counselor, as well as an ordained minister. There is currently no additional information provided by the facility’s website regarding its treatment staff; however, according to client reviews on Google, the team consists of pastors and ministers.[1]

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to the facility’s website, Changing Lives can accommodate approximately 200 women and children. Images of the campus show apartment-style lodgings, an on-site chapel, a playground, and a childcare center.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, Rehabs.com has not received any reviews from alumni. However, the facility received an impressive average rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on seven Google reviews at the time of this writing.[2] The alums commented that the faith-based approach was a major strength, as was the staff’s level of experience and care.

On its Facebook page, which Changing Lives Center for Women & Children can manage, the facility earned 4.3 out of five stars based on 12 reviews.[3] The alums wrote that the family involvement was a major benefit. Yet according to the intake application, clients are required to pay a weekly $100 program fee once they obtain regular employment that provides them with an adequate income to do so.

[1] https://goo.gl/pBGwIX
[2] https://goo.gl/ORhRax
[3]https://www.facebook.com/pg/Changing-Lives-Center-217838681564790/reviews/
