ABOUT HILL CREST BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES

Located in Birmingham, Ala., Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is full-service psychiatric hospital that offers a variety of programs for individuals seeking treatment for mental health disorders, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. The facility offers residential programs for adults and adolescents (ages 12 to 18) and outpatient care. Medically-monitored detox services are available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Hill Crest takes a holistic approach to addiction treatment. Physical, psychiatric, and psychosocial assessments are performed upon admittance. For adults, each client’s length of stay typically lasts five to 14 days but may vary, depending on a client's specific needs.

The adult residential program includes medication management, one-on-one counseling with both a psychiatrist and a therapist, group therapy, family counseling, relapse prevention groups, substance abuse and mental health education, and pastoral care. Family counseling is particularly important in rehab treatment as it prepares families to provide more effective support after treatment. Clients also participate in fitness activities and alternative therapies like ropes courses and art therapy.

The long-term residential programs for adolescents are gender-specific and typically last five to eight months. Programming takes a psychosocial, family-oriented approach to treatment. During treatment, school-aged clients also have access to academic resources as well. The organization operates its own school that satisfies Alabama's state curriculum for education. In Alabama, only 32 facilities offer treatment specifically for adolescents.

Upon discharge, each client leaves with an aftercare plan. This includes finding resources within the community to provide continued accountability and follow-up services. As clients complete the residential portion of treatment, they may also be encouraged to utilize outpatient counseling as an aftercare measure.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The staff at Hill Crest consists of psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, and other mental health professionals.
